Pregame celebration

02d92491b9ad23159d576860d5148a2eDear Diary,

Tomorrow is Anne’s birthday, and we spent much of today kind of doing a pregame celebration. 😀 We were unapologetically lazy, irresponsible (well, I did spend almost two hours processing emails), and watching Pawn Stars and Little Women of Atlanta most of the day.

Tomorrow will most likely be more of the same. Since it’s her birthday, I’m going to have her do the entry, since I know how much she loves talking to you guys and getting responses. Kind of like a mini birthday present.

Now. Back to that email processing I was talking about earlier. I wrote Amazon a while back asking them why the audiobook version of Phi Beta Pie isn’t attached to the eBook and paperback versions on its product page like every other fricking book I wrote, and I finally got a response:

Hello,

Thanks for contacting us.

I understand that you would like to link your books. I checked your books and see that the audio book listed in audible.com and not in the Amazon.com.

Please be informed that, although Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) and Audible are both Amazon affiliates and KDP helps authors publish or convert trade paperback books into Kindle format, Audible operates on a separate platform. Hence, if you publish your book in audible platform then it will be only in the Audible.com and not in the Amazon.com.

In this case, we don’t have any option to link it unless the Audible book is made available in Amazon website. Please make this change and get back to us so that we can link your books. I’m sorry about this issue.

Also, I’ll take your concern as feature request and communicate the same to our business team on your behalf for consideration as we plan future improvements.

I’m unable to promise a timeframe at this time, however, we are still evolving and feedback like yours motivate us to dive deep and unearth ways and means which helps us in making publishing on KDP a happy experience.

Please be sure to check our forums periodically for updates:

If you’ve any issue or need further clarification, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’re happy to resolve the issue for you.

Thanks for your understanding and support. We look forward to having to providing continued support to you.

You should have seen how my eyes rolled in the back of my head. 😀 Here was my response:

“In this case, we don’t have any option to link it unless the Audible book is made available in Amazon website. Please make this change and get back to us so that we can link your books.”

Please explain this line. I have published over two dozen books with you guys, and the audiobooks have always automatically linked to the paperback and eBook versions on the Amazon listing page. Why is this one any different?

I’m expecting a form letter back but fuck it. People are still buying the audiobook version, so maybe I won’t press too hard (after all, getting them to link the paperback version with the eBook version damn near took an act of Congress) but still: it’s the principle of the thing.

Anyway, Anne and I (I’m spending the night with her) are going to pick up a bit and play some Skyrim together, so until Sunday, my loves…

Well, Happy Birthday to Anne! 😊 It took them long enough though, it’s already working out so far!

Hi Alexa, First of all, please convey our Birthday wishes to Anne. Secondly,, did you get an actual Amazon human being’s name with an email address? If you did, can you send it to me. I’m going to try to get a ‘person of importance’ to begin a relationship with. And then hopefully Kinky Literature can become the “place of last resort” with Amazon for issues like this. You’re not the only author who we hear has ‘nightmare’ experiences with Amazon. They need a better customer service unit for their erotic books department and maybe we can help this along.

    Best,
    Richie

Unfortunately, I didn’t. It was the typical “[email protected]” with the generic name of “Vinie.” That whole getting a ‘person of importance’ to begin a relationship with idea is fantastic, and I completely agree with you on their customer service. It’s nonsensical, maddening, and really just baffling considering how big Amazon’s eBook platform is. I mean, they’re the number one eBook distributor in the world…
