My first – and last – time…

5.23.2018Dear Diary,

I’m pushing out this entry super early because I have a lot to do before I head back home. Yesterday was a somber day; today was a bit lighter, but more thoughtful. We stayed up so late last night talking and sharing stories (and even talking about Skyrim ⚔) that I lost track of time, and when I finally did get to bed, it was a fitful sleep. My mind just wouldn’t turn off. I kept crafting her story in my head, trying to figure out how much detail I wanted to include, how I should present it, what to take out and what to leave in…

And whether I would ever do something like this again.

The conclusion I came to: hell no. I won’t. Telling someone’s story carries a lot of weight with it, and while it’s a challenge (and I loves me some challenges) after this, I think I’ll stick to the good old Alexaverse. So, if you’re reading this and you have any inkling of contacting me to ask me about telling your story, please don’t. Because this has been mental hell.

Of course, unless you’re a VIP member of my Patreon, in which case you get to request a custom short story once a month if you so choose. (Always push the merch! 😅)

Otherwise: I’ll pass. Not that I don’t love reading your stories, so if you want to email or message me on social media, please do, I’m just not taking on any more personal projects like this.

I always said I would try anything once. This is that once.

Anyway, I have to go.

I love you.

All of you.

For reals.

💖

You did learn a couple of things though which I must have to agree!

When first time I started to photography some people were telling that photography needs to reflect the “reality” of life – and with reality they actually meant the drama. Majority of photographers – especially in Istanbul city have a tendency of taking photos of beggars, hopeless kleenex sellers in streets, homeless people and children without shoes and so on…

Me on the other hand who despise the drama always wanted to reflect the beautiful, fun, bright side. Here I was with a medium on my hands to capture the moments in life and since EVERYONE is already onto bad news through mainstream media and newspapers – why should I have to obligation of doing the same thing. During the protests, I was out there taking photos of sunset. While other photographers were taking photos of beggars, I was shooting city skylines. Because I wanted to focus on the positive and creative side of life.

This is exactly what you are doing with Alexaverse. Drama, sadness, tears, ruined lives are already there – mainstream media making money out of it pushing it all to people everyday. This is also a control mechanism because someone who had his/her mind filled with negative images can not create him/herself a positive life. BUT you had a choice there and I think you’ve chosen the right one with keep creating your own wonderful words. Just like Shakespeare, Da Vinci, Van Gosh, Michaelangelo, Vivaldi, Emerson and Ansel Adams did.
